America's Second Harvest issued a press release which announced that Arm & Hammer(R) would be contributing to help fight hunger. During the month of December, for every one-pound box of Arm & Hammer(R) Baking Soda purchased, Arm & Hammer(R) will donate a portion of the proceeds to America's Second Harvest. A webpage has also has been created for those that would like to support this effort by making a direct contribution to America's Second Harvest.
"It is our privilege to give back to the communities that have made us a trusted member of America's families for generations," said Jim Craigie, CEO of Church & Dwight Co., Inc., parent company of ARM & HAMMER(R). "We know the urgency of the hunger epidemic in America and would like to help bring attention to this cause."
After the holidays Church & Dwight Co. will provide America's Second Harvest with a $50,000 check, which will help provide more than 100,000 pounds of food and groceries to people across the United States. For more information:
You have to accept whatever comes and the only important thing is that you meet it with courage and with the best that you have to give.

It is nice to see these companies give back in this way. We should remember these companies when we make our choices at the supermarket. This donation, along with the hard work from the people at Second Harvest, will go a long way towards securing food for many of the nations hungry. It is also very admirable of the CEO at Arm & Hammer (R) to look at giving back as a privilege and not a duty.

It is very encouraging to see such a big company give back this way. It gives hope that maybe other companies will follow suit during the holidays instead of only thinking about how much they can earn during these times. Often times I think as a society we forget what the holidays are truly about.

It is not everyday that you see big compnies such as Arm and Hammer recognize the growing hunger problems, and actually making efforts to help. Especially, in these economic times where every dollar counts. It shows a lot about Arm and Hammer's character to step up to the plate like this and make efforts towards resolving world hunger.

once again its nice to see another company trying to make a effort to help end world hunger. It shows that there are nice people in the world who actually do have a heart. Because i feel what if we were in their shoes, we would help too so sometimes you have to put yourself second when it comes to helping each other out.

I am pleased that companies and individuals contribute to assist in fighting hunger. I hear all these companies contributing money towards hunger but I cant help to wonder how much money would be enough. It seems that the amount of money is endless towards this issue. How much money will ultimatley be enough to destroy the issue? Even if there was enough money contributed, will the epidemic of hunger even sease to exsist in the world?

in response to Lindsay's comment. i too am relieved to see a large company going out of their way to help. However i can not help but see world hunger as an everlasting struggle that we must first, catch up too and second, stay diligent in the fight against. The money is there. The knowledge is there. The awareness and effort is there. so why doesn't this problem just go away? I believe the answer is in the fact that hunger is the effect of much more complex issues, both political/economical and environmental. and just like with medicine, we are only treating the symptoms and not the cause. It is time that our efforts go toward correcting the cause and in doing so we will correct the symptoms.

It is so good to see a large company such as Arm & Hammer give back. Hunger is a very big issue that needs all the help and support it can get. I wish more companies were as willing to use a little of their money to help those in need. Money may be tight for a lot of people right now but sparing even the smallest amount will make a difference in someone elses life. Every little bit helps and brings the world one step closer to ending Hunger.

This is amazing of Arm and Hammer. If more major corporations would do this and contribute we could really make a dent in world hunger. Individual persons cant afford to do this but major companies can.

Baking soda is such a common household item that is bought daily for cooking and even cleaning needs, for Arm & Hammer (R) to decide to donate some of their profits to help those in need is definitely a selfless act that, I believe, more large brands need to do. When people are buying such items daily, it doesn't hurt to donate some of what you're pretty much guaranteed to earn to those who need it more than you.

Response to Tommy's post...putting the issue in that perspective makes it clearer. For me, and most people the availability of food is a luxury we have. So, its not completely easy to understand the hunger and pain of the individuals that don’t have the basic survival needs met. I completely agree wholeheartedly with Tommy though, "its only treating the symptoms, not the cause." Maybe one day, people will wake up and instead of masking the problem, just take the time out to correct it once and for all.

I feel that it is a great thing that Arm & Hammer is doing to show there recognition of world hunger. I hope that more companies follow in there footsteps and begin doing exactly what Arm & Hammer is doing with certain products!! This alone isn't enough to put a stop to hunger around the world. However, if we act together, we could eventually put a stop to world hunger!

It is very good to see companies giving back to communities in need. I hope more people will find out about what Arm & Hammer so when they get to the supermarket, people can purchase it in case of other brands. It also helps that Arm & Hammer is used in most households so it is purchase by quite a few people.
With other companies seeing what Arm & Hammer is doing, hopefully it will encourage other companies doing it as well. Malnutrition is such a large problem in the work, any large companies, like Arm & Hammer, can help by just donating like they did. Any amount of money will just take one step closer to ending world hunger.

I really respect Arm & Hammer for giving back. Big companies make a lot of money and most of them don't realize they should give back to the community that has given them success by buying the product the company produces. For every one pound box of Arm & Hammer sold they will donate proceeds to the second harvest foundation. I think this is a great plan to raise money. Church & Dwight Co. are giving 50,000 dollars and will provide over 100,000 pounds of food to help feed the hungry. "We know the urgency of the hunger epidemic in America and would like to help bring attention to this cause." I think that statement alone shows how much this company is putting into helping the cause.
