The New York Times Reports on the Crisis in Somalia and Need for Aid

The November 19, 2007 edition of The New York Times has an article "As Somali Crisis Swells, Experts See a Void in Aid " that reports on the growing humanitarian crisis in Somalia and the challenges in obtaining and delivering international assistance.  From the article:

The people here are hungry, exposed, sick and dying. And the few aid organizations willing to brave a lawless, notoriously dangerous environment cannot keep up with their needs, like providing milk to the thousands of babies with fading heartbeats and bulging eyes. “Many of these kids are going to die,” said Eric Laroche, the head of United Nations humanitarian operations in Somalia. “We don’t have the capacity to reach them.”

National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week is November 11 - 17

National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week will take place from November 11 - 17, 2007 and is an annual event co-sponsored by the National Coalition for the Homeless and the National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness.

During this week organizations and communities across the country will help raise awareness of the problems of and solutions to hunger and homelessness.  You can view the National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week website for more information or download the event manual (PDF).

20th Annual Student Conference on Hunger and Homelessness is November 2 - 4

The National Student Campaign Against Hunger and Homelessness will hold their annual conference from November 2 - 4, 2007 in Madison, Wisconsin at the University of Wisconsin.  The conference features panel presentations, workshops, and an "Opportunities and Action Fair," where students can meet representatives from local and national organizations working on hunger, homelessness, and poverty issues.  Students from more than approximately 100 schools are expected to attend this year's event.
